What A Girl Notices In A Football Game III

How could I have forgotten??

Gianfranco Zola vs Ben Stiller

Hidetoshi Nakata vs Wong Hei

*****

This girl also notices scandals and disputes that go on in the football world. I'm definitely not an expert but I know enough to comment, thanks to 《新明日报》, which has comprehensive coverage of European football everyday. The following comments are just my two cents worth of thoughts.

This is not exactly recent but it has been bugging me. When it is the season for player transfers, many players may explain their interests in joining other clubs, because they are not fully utilised in their current clubs, or because of personal reasons.

Two particular incidents showed that sometimes it's not prudent to show your enthusiasm so early in the game. One was the transfer of Michael Owen to Real Madrid. Before he transfered, he exclaimed that Real was the club he had dreamt of joining since he was a child. Consequently, this comment (I think) incurred the wrath of his current club, Liverpool, then. When he finally joined Real, he wasn't allowed much participation in Real's games. And soon, he transfered to Newcastle, which he expressed, "is not my ideal club".

The result of all these is absolute embarrassment for Owen. 1) He really shouldn't proclaim his love for another club when he was still in one, right? What if, what if.... Real didn't want him?? Wouldn't he be such a laugh? 2) It wasn't nice to comment that the new club wasn't his first-choice club. What did he think the members of the club and the fans would feel??

Another incident was the transfer of Saha from his previous club, to Man Utd. I felt so embarrassed for him when he kicked up a fuss at his old club saying that he wanted to leave for MU. "Let me go! Let me go! Let me go!" Ok, so now you're at MU, how often do you appear on the pitch??

Imagine the above situations in an interpersonal relationship. Can you get together with a girl and announce that she is not your ideal girlfriend but only because you have no better choice? Will you scream at your family and tell them that you want to leave them for another family because your family sucks?? Hope I got my point across. I can't be bothered to edit my writing.

Please don't read the above entry. I think I'm must be embarrassing myself.

No. 1 Event Of The Year

Announcing the No. 1 Event Of The Year...... 10 December!

It may not be your event of the year. But it's definitely mine.

As I subtly mentioned previously, my birthday is just around the corner. But it's not a big deal. I won't mind at all if nobody celebrates it with me. Really. Just drop me a SMS, I'll be happy. But if you insist, I won't mind accepting your gift. Hehe.

However, no matter how good your intentions are, please do not give me ornamental, useless things. You'll put me in a spot because I really love you for your thoughtfulness but I'll have to act appreciative and gush, "Oooh, it's so cute," or "It's beautiful. I can put it in my bedroom (and collect dust)".

Er, if you remembered me behaving like this last year, I'm sorry, I was only faking my joy. You can have the gift back if you want; it's lying somewhere in my display cabinet. Hope I don't sound like a heartless jerk. I will still love you for loving me.

Lest your effort gets neglected at the back of my display cabinet, below are some of the things I will like to have. Of course, if you wish to give me something more meaningful other than the material items listed below, feel free to. I know it's not nice to ask presents from others but I will feel bad if I had to act happy and lie to you when you present me with a gift I have no use for. So, please refer to the list when in doubt of my tastes and the things I want.

1) Handbag - Can fit a novel, my wallet, hp, card holder, small water bottle, maybe even umbrella/pencil case comfortably (about the size of my honey bag). No preference over design.

2) Novel - Middlesex by Jeffrey Eugenides. I absolutely love this book and want to own it so that I can read it again and again and again..... Like my Harry books. I will lend it to you if you get it for me. You can borrow Harry too; I encourage it totally. Me love to spread the bookness~

3) CD - Ono Lisa Best 1997 - 2001. Call me a frog in the well. I finally know one of my favourite genre of music, which I used to call lounge music, is known as Bossa nova. This is the type of music I will play when I'm alone with my lover, doing dreamy things like: watching the sunset on our balcony, swaying slowly to the music in each other's arms, reading Middlesex on our living room couch while he snores ever so adorably on my lap, and performing a seductive striptease. Even though I have no lover at the moment, I will love to have it. You'll never know when it'll come in handy ;) I also only just got to know that Lisa Ono is the epitome of Bossa nova music, even though Hui has been a fan for ages.

For (2) and (3): Alternatively, you can give me bookstore vouchers and/or CD store vouchers.

4) Watch - As some of you know, my special watch stopped ticking that fateful day. Also, unknown to the giver (until this very moment), I accidentally dropped it and cracked the surface eons ago. It could no longer flash every 2 seconds like it used to. (Oops, now he knows.) I figured that there's no point repairing it since it agreed to our end by stopping so ominously. Don't need to be Guess la, but not something too cheapo ok :p

5) Schoolbag - Big enough to put A4 size documents and a texbook, like Shirley's Estee Lauder bag. Its material shouldn't be too flimsy - should be able to stand on its on. I don't like the base to be too wide, possibly parallel to the size of its opening. I'm also very particular about the strap. I don't like it too long. It must be just big enough to slip my arm through all the way to my shoulder, but not bigger than that. Its design should be classy or military, ie I don't want something too cheery or funky. (I'm a bad girl to be so picky over the goodwill of others.) Maybe something like the one I saw with Tay at Far East. This picture is only representative of my bag's ideal shape and stiffness of its material. This is not my preferred design. I couldn't find a more suitable picture.

6) Digital camera - Canon IXUS i zoom. It's a wonder a narcist (I haven't spelt it wrong. Check dictionary.com) like me can last without a camera for so long. Why must technical stuff be boring grey and black all the time? I want a colourful camera like those below. I guess no one of you will buy a camera for me. Maybe all of my friends can pool money together and buy it for me. Hmm... not sure if I had enough friends to afford a digital camera. I'm don't have many friends, you know. I don't mind having it as the only present for my birthday.

7) Lovely lingerie - It's becoming a common gift among girls of our age. One can never have enough. I'm sorry to sound so materialistic but the lingerie set has to be branded or it won't look nice under the clothes. And the cheap ones don't last.

8) Flowers - Lilies or roses or orchids. I know I said I don't like ornamental things. I meant it with the exception of flowers. Actually, I will love you more if you give me flowers in addition to another gift. Poor little me haven't received flowers for two whole years. When girls say that flowers are silly gifts and that they don't need flowers to show that they are loved, they're lying through their teeth. Girls need, and are meant to be pampered. Sometimes through receiving flowers. Pamper me.

(Added 23/11)
9) Food - If you prefer to take me out for dinner, I have some suggestions.
Steakhouse for Carnivores: Al Dente; Angus; Jack's Place; Sizzler; Tony Roma's (I'm craving for potato skins!)
Sumptuous Spagetti: Menotti; Spageddies (or anywhere with good Crayfish pasta)
Grill & Roast Feast: Brewerks; Hawaiian BBQ @ ECP; The Roxy Bar @ Grand Mercure Roxy Hotel, next to Roxy Square
Extravagant Seafood Buffet: Intercontinental Hotel; Hotel Rendevous; Merchant Court Hotel (or similar - must have unlimited salmon sashimi).
Divine Dessert: Bakerzin; Haagen Dazs; NYDC (etc.)
For the Boisterous: Black pepper crab feast!

10) Shopping vouchers - How could I have forgetten??

I may add on to the list if I thought of anything else. Meanwhile, if you plan to buy me the book, the CD or the watch, please let me know so that I can stop others from buying those. Because it's silly to own two identical books/CDs. For the rest, I won't mind owning more than one piece, so keep it secret if you wanna get it for me. I love little surprises.

I stress again: Birthday presents are not obligatory. A "Happy birthday," will do. Maybe can ring me up at the strike of midnight and exclaim that the 10 Dec is the best day of your life because I was born on that day. Keke.

FYI, the third event of the year is the Goblet of Fire and the second one is the Half Blood Prince, as said before.

Veritaserum

Must watch!

Even though it's not up to expectations. Even though it's in bits and pieces in the beginning. Even though Dobby and Winky are excluded. Even though Emma Watson needs to brush up her acting. Even though Cho is not chio enough. Even though Hagrid and Madame Maxime are disgusting. Even though the Quidditch World Cup isn't shown. Even though Hermione is a little too affectionate to Harry. Even though it diverges from the book and makes silly mistakes.

You have to watch it. Especially if you had watched the previous three.

Because the scenery is breathtaking. Because Daniel Ratcliffe is a brilliant actor. Because Ron is hilarious. Because Krum is super hot. Because the sets are superb. Because Ginny becomes pretty. Because every task of the Triwizard Tournament is nail-biting excitement. Because Neville gets a significant role. Because they all attend dancing class. Because Harry is handsome, when dirty or smart. Because Voldemort looks exactly the way you have imagined him. Because Fleur wears a swimsuit. Because there's a punchline and a joke in many moments. Because Cedric is cute. Because the ending is emotionally upheaving. Because you won't get enough of it.

Trust me. Cos I had some Veritaserum for dinner.

Study Week

(Updated 18/11/05 with pics)

<--- This pic of the Prudent Bitch is supposed to make you laugh. So laugh.I want to e a space but stupid blogger does not let me insert a blank line with 'enter' so i came up with this stupid way of writing stuff then colour it white.
Study week, but I'm not studying at all because of two major events in this week! First up, was the ad presentation for my marketing module. We were to design a promotional campaign for a real product - Command Adhesives by 3M.

Naturally, this is because 3M sponsored the resources and expenses that we needed for the whole project. Besides being graded by the prof, we were also competing with other groups to win the top prize, which would be decided by a panel of judges from 3M. Therefore, we had to be professional when designing the ads and scheduling the promotional activities.

Again, I was assigned to come up with the Phase 2 posters because I was the only one who knew how to use Photoshop, even though my skills were lousy. By the way, I know how to use Photoshop not because I'm vain ok. You're just jealous that I have a skill more than you, if you think this way. Bwahahaha. Phase 1 posters were given to a professional to design because my group members had little trust in me. I'm not complaining because they really shouldn't put too much confidence in me. Although we had to pay a little for the designer's work, it was well worth it!

We rushed day and night to complete the project: design the posters, make the props and do the powerpoint slides. After 2 nights without sleeping, I concussed for 14 hours last night. Frankly speaking, we only finalised the ideas 3 days before the presentation, simply because we rejected all previous ideas. In fact, we only reach the presentation venue a few minutes before we were due to present. We were so afraid that we would flop in the presentation because of the lack of preparation. Surprisingly, we managed to pull it off. We were even praised for the excellent job! And we won the............ top prize! Well almost, haha. We were 1st runner's up instead. 3M presented us with $300 cash for the whole group and a
3M Polarizing Light each (worth $200).

Proudly presenting one of our posters for Phase 1 - building the brand name, Command.

I don't wish to publish the posters of Phase 2 - promoting the products' functionality, because they are a laugh compared to the above posters that were done by a professional.

The Beezees

Yanling, James, Dawne, Joanne, Shirley

I decided to insert these two pictures cos I have chubby cheeks above but Shirley's face is covered below.

That's the end of the first event of the week. I now own an overpriced table lamp that I have no need for. If anybody wants, I can sell it to you at half price.

The second event of the week, in fact, event of the year - Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire!!!

Actually, it's the third event of the year, the second one being Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince (my fave), the first one I'll reveal later. I'll be watching the movie tomorrow and I simply cannot wait!!! Non-Harry book fans can never imagine and understand the excitement. To see the world we have always imagined come to life is an orgasmic experience.

The first three movies were good enough although they weren't exactly the same as the books. After all, there should be space for the director's creativity. However, we cannot stand it when the little details are not followed, like Hermione's hair was not bushy enough (Socerer's Stone), Ginny was not pretty enough (Chamber of Secrets), Fudge did not wear a pin-striped cloak and carry a bowler hat (Prisoner of Azkaban), and from the trailer, Hermione did not wear a blue dress to the Yule ball (Goblet of Fire). These are little details that would not interfere with the flow of the show. I huffed and puffed at these little things but I enjoyed the movies immensely. Actually, I watched them more than once each.

I very much wanted to watch the movie yesterday. I actually rejected watching it with Peiwen, whom I watched the past two movies with, because she was still having exams. I agreed to watch with Wanqing and her friends (all fans) because she said they finished exams on the first day it showed and had to reject Rudi's offer to watch it. In the end, they made a mistake! They finished their exams but two days after the sneak preview. Bummer. Because Rudi already booked tickets to watch with someone else.

I shouldn't grumble anymore. Perhaps I might not make it yesterday because I was rushing my Command project. And so, I'll be watching it tomorrow and I just cannot wait! I have an exam before the show. I wonder how I can concentrate.

By the way, I haven't touched a page. But I'm not panicking, cos I'm very good with last minute studying.

Partygirl In Partyworld

Partygirl went partying three times in two months, twice of which in last week, after a hibernation of eight months. First was Marketing Stars' Night, which was free for Bizad marketing students, at Club Momo. Each ticket could be exchanged for a dinner (in fact is just hi-tea held at 8pm) and two glasses of Guiness Stout and qualified for lucky draw. We got to play stage games with the professors and faculty staff. We also got to watch some of them dance enthusiastically to the number Rhythm of the Night and later to the club music on bartops (!?!).

June Lim, Elaine and Chubby Cheeks

Shirley and Joanne

Prof Cheng Peng Sim

It was also then that schoolmates mistook me for a regular clubber. "I'm not a bloody clubber," I retorted, trying to make myself heard over the loud music.

All they did was grin mischievously and said, "Don't bluff."

Half fuming, half laughing, I stuck out my tongue. I don't like to be known as a clubbing queen. Although the label also compliments by acknowledging my grooves, it makes me sound cheap. I am not a clubber okay, I'm just an exuberant dancer.

And last Monday, I went to Zouk's Halloween Party. I reached there at around 11pm when my friends just stepped into the club. (Darn. I could have joined them if I had reached 10 minutes earlier.) Instead, I had to join the queue which snaked right into the Grand Copthorne Waterfront's carpark. The line only progressed 10 metres after 30 minutes when it started to drizzle. Hui and Jeslyn then came out to coax me into jumping queue. And so I did, or I would have to wait at least 2 hours to get in.

My outfit was only done halfheartedly as I didn't expect the guests to take the contest seriously. I planned to draw whiskers to impersonate a cat but after seeing the elaborate costumes of the
other people (Zouk is slow in updatng pictures, so bear with Xiaxue if you wanna check out the costumes), I decided that I would not win with or without the makeup.

Cat ears handmade by Partygirl in 30 min.
Cat whiskers added by Partygirl in Photoshop.

Inside, we saw the most bizarre costumes. There's an Energiser battery (adorable), guys in CHIJ uniforms (hilarious), a dancing tabletop (?!?), Chinese vampires (scary) and more.

I got molested by a couple of ang mohs dressed in sarongs and straw hats. (What's with ang mohs and flowers and sarongs and straw hats?) ROARRR!! Maybe I brought it upon myself; I smiled to them when they danced next to me. First they pinched my very ticklish waist. At that time, I thought it was Hui steering me to the left. Seeing no response from me, the ang mohs squeezed my buttocks. My naughty partygirl nature thought of cheekily pinching their asses in return but the more dominant prudent bitch in me decided to look pissed and moved over to Phuture.

We stayed there for the rest of the night till Hui started to dance in a trancelike manner with her eyes closed. Tired, we exited the club, fooled around with the camera, some terrorists and Mr Beetlejuice on the porch of Grand Copthorne Waterfront before going home.

Vampire (Jeslyn) terrifying Gypsy (Hui) and Kitty

I bet none of you remembers Beetlejuice. I do!

I got a little high after two vodka mixes and half a bottle of Thirty Three on an empty stomach and started putting my arms around almost strangers (Jeslyn and Hui's friends). Slut.

Genie (Jan) and Jester (Zongying)

Daric (Daric)

I went to Phuture again later that week because I got a few free entry tickets during the Halloween Party. I was coaxed into drinking the notorious Graveyard.

The Graveyard is reputed to be one of the strongest alcoholic drinks available at Zouk because it is a concoction of several types of alcohol. I didn't think I was a bad drinker but it looked scary sitting in front of me. The whiffs exuding from the drink was intoxicating. Its colour was like the foul looking Polyjuice Potion. It tasted nasty and stung the tongue like SkeleGro. In essence, it was the most unpleasant drink, after lingyang herbal tea. "But you drink it simply to get high," my partner pointed out.

And the Graveyard lived up to its name. I was knocked off balance 20 minutes after finishing it. Although I can see and think clearly, I lost control of my legs. More than once, I staggered to the walls or swayed into my partner's arms helplessly.

The Graveyard is a dangerous drink. It not only made me feel weak in the knees, it stripped me of my pretences, leaving me defenceless and vulnerable. Besides, it tasted bad. Give Partygirl a Tiger anytime. Thank you very much.

Er, I'm not a frequent goer of Partyworld. Just trying to be funny.

Happy Birthday To You

I wished Dian Fang a happy birthday yesterday. It seems that he was utterly perplexed (in a nice way, of course) that I remembered. After all, the closest bond we had was in primary school, which was almost ten years ago.

Let me first explain why I remembered. Firstly, of course, was that I made the effort to (sometimes to cover up for the fact that I didn't give them prezzies). To those who realised (eg Jeslyn), I remember every single birthday of yours, as long as you mentioned it to me once. Besides my exceptional memory and shrewd observation skills to remember such details, I believe that my friends will appreciate my effort. Secondly, it's the fact that Dian Fang's birthday falls on Halloween Day. (Yuneng once said, "No wonder, he's face is shaped like a pumpkin.") In fact, I remember his birthday every year, most of the times not intended however.

I bumped into him earlier in the day. He was with Chunghang and Yonghe (I think these are their names). Being the usual bubbly me, I waved to him cheerily. It didn't strike me that it was his birthday that day. Only a few hours later, when I thought of the Halloween party I would be going to, that I remembered. This year I happened to have his number, so I took the effort and smsed him. This little gesture may not mean much since it's from a distant friend but I like to please my friends if I can.

Ok, here's to recapitulate your birthdays:

Okok, I'm human after all. I forgot June Lim's and Hong Choo's birthday. Also, I always wanted to know Agnes'... I know it's in February. Can someone enlighten me? I may have got some of these wrong. Please correct me. Heh.

Anyway, don't be surprised if you received my birthday wish. I just want to let you know that you are remembered, and loved (in certain cases =p).

*****
This is for a school project. We are asked to designed a promotion campaign for a budding singer's first album. So my partner and I created a character - 谢翊卓. You-know-who has kindly consented me to use his photo for CD album cover and the poster, and even an original recording for my presentation. However, owing to lack of time and my inexpert Photoshop skills, he looks like some cheapo singer like Ou Deyang.

He is rather displeased with the results. I think he will be even more unhappy that I'm showing it to public. Oops. Don't be angry with me ok? It's just for some light-hearted amusement.

Heheh.

Sailormoon I Am Not

Sailormoon, I am not. But I dressed up as her during class presentation today.

Before

This picture was not taken today (I don't have a Before photo), but my outfit was something like this - lousy Tee, casual shorts and my lovely Adidas jacket.

Our project was to study the consumption behaviour of a certain interest group and do a professional yet interesting presentation on it, together with report containing our findings and analysis. I didn't have to embarrass myself in class if:

1) Weixiong didn't suggest interviewing cosplayers.
2) (subsequent to point 1) I enthusiastically and stupidly told the group that I cosplayed before.
3) The rest of the group weren't part of the same gang. Thus, I had no power to protest.
4) I was not being too nice for my own good.

Finally, I succumbed to their coersion and agreed to act as Jenny the cosplayer. Since I did not have to be involved in the formal presentation of the findings and analysis, I spent my time brainstorming the creative part of the presentation. It was fun actually; I get to revisit my (superficial) drama skills.

Anyway, Jenny's favourite anime/manga character is Sailormoon. Inevitably, I would have to dress up as one. Ta daa~

After

Ok la, it didn't turn out as bad as I thought; at least the costume's cute. Before today, I thought I needed to place a paperbag over my head in Bizad after my presentation. Luckily, it's still pretty decent. I cannot imagine the reaction of the class and the following impact on my reputation if I had to wear Sailormoon's super short fighter outfit:

Not that I mind wearing short skirts, of course. It's just that I am trying hard to prevent people from viewing me as a bimbo.

Anyway, the presentation ended without major glitches. Or so I thought. Without my knowledge, it ended with this picture:

Cosfest 2000

And the class was asked to guess, "Which of our group members do you think is in the picture?" ROARRR. I (first one from the right) looked horrible in my short, curly hair and chubby cheeks! And they had to show it to the class. Haha, but of course, all these were done with good-natured humour. Since I had such a good time working with them, I will forgive and forget :)

Lastly, I wanna thank Yuanie for lending us her beautiful costume.

Wonky Faints

Fainting spells keep hitting me recently. First of the recent spells was during the lunch with the girls at mid-sem break. The second was during lunch with Rudi two weeks ago. Most recent was today, on my way back home.

When I say I fainted, I don't mean I lose all consciousness and fall to the ground. When I get hit by a fainting spell, I feel giddy. My vision becomes colourful, like the many pixels of a computer monitor. The ground becomes uneven and I start to wobble. My lips turn pale and my whole body becomes weak. I need something to support myself as I walk. I need to sit down. The cause: no proper breakfast.

Witnesses of my faints were quite alarmed. They scolded me for not eating breakfast. But... but I... Look, I wake up at ten for noon classes. Give myself half an hour to brush teeth, dress and pack. Then I have to leave or I will be late. There is no time to eat breakfast! Besides, I will reach school very shortly, in 90 minutes time. Okok, 90 minutes is not exactly short. On top of my reckless behaviour (to my health), I guess the hill that Bizad is sitting on poses as a threat, since I feel giddy when I ascend stairs, or hills, or slopes when I feel weak. I'm not a weakling ok. I see soldiers collapsing at their passing out parades.

The first time I fainted was in Primary School. The principal had too much to say during a certain morning assembly and I practically slumped to the ground. Two teachers had to carry me by the arms to the sick bay. I was fed some cereal.

The second time this happened in Primary School was the rehearsal for my school's moving-to-new-campus run. All of us had to line up and welcome the runners as they arrived from the old campus in Guillemard Road. We waited under the sun in senang diri (How do I spell this?) position. Two of us couldn't take it, including me. I guess what added on to the lack of sugar in the morning was the sudden loss of iron from my body. No point being shy about this. It was the first time I had my period, I discovered later that day.

A few insignificant episodes happened throughout Secondary School. I don't remember any attacks in JC. The fainting spells became more these two years.

There was once I skipped breakfast, and took the bus at seven plus in the morning. I wouldn't have fainted if I got a seat. Unfortunately, because of the morning crowd, I had to stand. 20 minutes into the ride, I felt a familiar weakening sensation. I knew I needed to sit down, so I attempted to alight the bus to rest at a bus stop. But before I reached the door, I wobbled and almost fell, if not for the people around me. They grabbed me steady and one gave up his seat to me. I couldn't see anything and was too weak to thank them. I just laid my head and the headrest in front (something I will never do in my right mind) and tried to recuperate. It took the whole bus journey on the ECP before I regained my composure and thanked the guy who gave up his seat. Finally I reached the school bus stop and I took the same bus in the opposite direction to go home to rest.

The second time was less serious, I managed to ask someone to let me take her seat before I lost my vision and balance. Weizheng was with me then. I'm sorry to alarm him like this.

The rest of the experiences were rather similar: I didn't eat breakfast for some pathetic reason, I felt giddy, and needed to sit down. The situations varied according to where I was, who were with me and how serious the spells were. But they all happened because I didn't eat anything before that.

Today was a different story. I woke at ten and left home at twelve for a 2pm class. I knew I might faint if I didn't eat before 4, the end of the class. So I bought a packet of Pocky and a tube of Fruitips. Chocolate and sugar. But they seemed to have lost their magic. I felt giddy when I climbed up the stairs to my lecture. After the class, I quickly went to eat a box of soya beancurd, with lots of syrup. Yet I still fainted on the way home.

This is a serious issue. My body seems to be losing the ability to produce glucose badly. I think I better see a doctor for these cases seem to be occuring more frequently. Maybe I'm going to die soon. Haha. Unfortunately however, I think this is going to be very unlikely.

I guess only
Qing knows what a Wonky Faint is. By the way, if you hear me say anything unfamiliar in these few weeks, it most probably is a quote from HP. Also, I'm looking for someone to watch Goblet of Fire with me on the first screening day (17 Nov). Requirement: Must be someone who is willing to sacrifice some study time for Harry.

I Wanna Date A Citibanker

A Citibanker is represented by the Citibank model in the Citibank ads. He is intelligent, charming, sincere and romantic. He has a cleanly shaven face, lovely sharp features, twinkling eyes and a smile that makes your legs wobble. He wears simple CK apparel that look perfect on his tall, proportionate frame. It is not exactly shown in the ads, but I'm pretty sure a hot piece of ass is packaged into the Citibank model.

James Lye is a rather good representation of a Citibanker. I think Julian Hee will qualify as well. And no, Jing Li, you do not look like Julian Hee, or a Citibanker.

And so, we had class presentations in school yesterday. Since it was a makeup class, Prof combined two classes into one and we got to meet people from the other class. And so, one group presented. One of the presenters had the Citibank look! As we had to dress up formally for presentations, he looked even better in his shirt and pants. Much as I wanted to, I couldn't stare at him throughout the presentation. It's not a prudent thing for a girl to do.

I watched him, looked at the screen when he turned in our direction, whispered to Shirley, watched him, smiled at him when he looked in our direction, whispered somemore to Shirley, looked at the screen, nodded and smiled in acknowledgement at what he was saying when he looked at us, looked at the screen, watched him, giggled with Shirley and stared intently at the slides till the end of the presentation.

"Mel, he kept looking at you!" Shirley said.

"Eh, it was irritating to hear two stupid girls giggling during the whole presentation," Dawne said. "No wonder Citibankers earn so much. They just need to have silly female clients like you, who won't pay attention to what they're saying. The girls will agree to anything."

Heheh.
He looked even cuter when compared to the next presenter who looked like Johnny Depp from Corpse Bride.

And so, I left the class in good spirits that lasted throughout the day. It's wondrous how a good looking person brightens your day. Wanqing, let's date Citibankers together!

DOM Beware...

Hey look, this is me. I'm in my gloomy room now, sharpening my little knives, about to go on the mission of the night.

Sources told me that a girl was taken advantage of in a crowded shopping mall. She was alone and helpless. She didn't have time to react. The lecher was smart, he didn't touch her. He simply took a picture from underneath her skirt, to satisfy his pathetic desire later in his rundown apartment. Ah... the evils of the camera phone. They should be abolished. But that's not what I'm going to do today.

Now, I'm going to hunt for the loser and slice him up, so he'll never feel the desire to mar the dignity of another innocent girl. Wait, I'll need a little disguise.

Cute huh. OK, I'm off. Out into the night to hunt for the crook. I have the most amazing gadget. It tells me where my target is. I see, he's at a deserted cinema now, alone in the back row. There are a few couples here and there watching the show. He has comfortably seated his paunchy self directly behind a pair of lovers who are hardly concentrating on the movie. Giggling, smooching, their hands and legs all tangled up. But this does not give any DOM the right to peep. All right, time to work.

Unknown to the man, I sit myself next to him in my adorable little outfit. In my best sultry voice, I bend over and purr into his ear, "Hey mister, what are you looking at?"

He sits up in alarm. I lie back into the seat and smile at him. Twirling a strand my hair with my fingers, I say, "You are very naughty..."

He gulps, then smiles awkwardly. He starts to say something when I bend towards him and whisper, "Let's show them we can do better." I nod towards the oblivious lovers in front.

Nervously, he fumbles with his belt while I watch him with ultimate disgust. I'm waiting for the right moment. Then, as suddenly as I appeared, I flashed out my knives and "Argh-!" The pathetic man lets out a bloodcurling scream.

I have done my job. I'm now back in my room, out of my disguise. Sharpening my knives once again, waiting to feed the next DOM the medicine he deserves.

Welcome!

A friend commented that my archives is rather scant. That's because I don't used to blog often. Moreover, I have deleted a number of posts that I thought were not suitable for public viewing. Hmm, actually there's no need to explain why I have so few articles right? Haha, let me get back to my main point.

Welcome welcome. I'm only starting to publicise A Prudent Bitch. If you happened to stumble upon my page, I say hihi. Drop a note. Let me know you came by. I will like to know who watches me :p

Stop Shaking Your Leg!

I finally identified The Man Who Shakes His Leg Like There's No Tomorrow. I would not have realised if I haven't talked today about leg shaking men with a friend, when he walked past.

2 semesters ago when I took the exam for DSC 2006 in HSS Auditorium, I was unpleasantly disturbed by The Man Who Shakes His Leg Like There's No Tomorrow. With one leg propped against another, he shakes his leg so violently that the whole row of connected seats started shaking simultaneously. Unfortunately, I was the one who sat next to him, receiving the full force of his inconsiderate actions. He shook his leg till his slipper came off. He shook his leg till his pencil dropped to the ground. I was extremely frustrated. I almost threw my pencil case at him. I could have complained to the invigilator but I kept my cool. At the end of the exam, I tried to glare at him to express my anoyance but to no avail.

The next day was the exam for FNA 2004. I should have expected it since the seats arranged according to alphabetical order, and that FNA 2004 was a compulsory module everyone had to take, including The Man Who Shakes His Leg Like There's No Tomorrow. Lo and behold, he was assigned to sit in front of me. The ritual started again. He shook his leg till his slipper came off. He shook his leg till his pencil dropped to the ground. I was extremely frustrated. I almost threw my pencil case at him. This time, I tried to hiss at him while trying to concentrate on my paper. Again, I did not complain to the invigilator.

My last paper was FNA 2002, also a compulsory module. No prizes for guessing it. I got a little help this time. A guy next to him was irritated too. He asked the invigilator to get him to stop shaking his leg. HAHA. That only stopped him for a while though. Argh. I hate him.

Anyway, he's now in my Consumer Behaviour class. I finally understand why I took a dislike to him when I first saw him in the class. Subconsciously, I remembered that he is The Man Who Shakes His Leg Like There's No Tomorrow.

Leg shaking makes you look either like a hooligan or a
DOM. Stop it!

//Edit (6 Oct 09): It has been brought to my attention that there are many responses to this post. To the readers who feel that I am an insensitive bitch for whining about somebody's unfortunate medical condition, this post was written 4 years ago when I was still a self absorbed chick who did not realise that leg shaking could be a form of compulsive disorder. Only when I observe my blog tracker over the past few years and see that many people stumbled onto this page while searching for treatments on such a condition that I realised this may be a serious issue which some people are facing. For my ignorance, I apologise. My objective of writing in my blog really is to entertain (and at times brag about myself) the readers and I feel that this post is one of my proudest piece of writing for the blog. I hope the readers will take my ramblings with a pinch of salt and not get too emotional over it. By the way, I secretly believe that the guy mentioned in the post was not in need of medical help. He just lacked a form of self control at the expense of others.//

What A Girl Notices In A Football Game

As you know, most girls rarely fully concentrate on the mechanics of a football match. Sure, we can feel the same exhilaration as guys when the ball whizzes past the keeper. We can also understand the frustration when the ball whizzes past our keeper. But more often than not, we tend to get distracted by Old Trafford's neatly trimmed field, Beckham's golden locks, Cristiano's dazzling earstud, Forlan's adorable celebration antics, Sir Alex Ferguson's beetroot face when chewing gum, etc etc. Yes yes, I'm a Man U fan. Not because of Becks, please.

One of my favourite past times when watching a boring match is identifying footballers who look like other famous personalities:

Roy Keane vs Mel Gibson

Robin van Persie vs Prince William

Shay Given vs Robbie Williams

Rooney vs Shrek

Don't say I'm not a true football fan. I do enjoy the game. Only I sometimes see it in a more interesting way.

鸟啦

Almost every morning, I get shaken from my dreams by bloody birds. They sit on my window sill and screech. I toss around for a few minutes before pulling off my covers grumpily and yell at them. Shut the F up! I shout. Friends will know that I don't spout vulgarities, not even when I'm alone. Imagine how frustrated I get.

The idiots will hop around happily as if I just praised them for singing so beautifully on a Sunday morning, 8 am. Friends will know that I need my beauty sleep. Anyone disturbing me for no reason are subjected to my wrath.

Sometimes, I grab a roll of poster off my study table and try to push the birds off the sill. But I usually can't bear to. Anyway, they seem to realise my irritation recently and they move away. Away to the ledge behind the wall where my bed is. I can't reach out to hit them anymore, and they sing as shrilly as ever. 鸟啦.

I'm a bitch

In case I show my blog to anyone in the future, and he /she happens to look through the archives, I will like him / her to see this.

This is specially to all from my JC cohorts of 2001 and 2002, and from my faculty 1999 - 2006. You may find someone familiar. I cannot say who though.

Hui and I were shopping for a bikini for Sue as a birthday gift. She asked me to look at this page. The bikinis it sold were rather nice, she said. And I stumbled upon her. I was speechless. According to Hui, those pictures were put up customers of Rave. They bought the bikini, wore it, thought they looked nice and posted their pictures up. Can you count the number of photos she put up? She thought she looked hot, huh. Look at the seductive poses. Look at the sultry pout. Look at the flabs.

She already has a pretty bad reputation. I'm a bitch for spreading such things.

The Horror Flick

Why must horror flicks have names that begin with The? Perhaps that's the formula for box office breaking records, as claimed. If we were to come up with a horror script and name it like this, it might sell well too! Let's try.

The Scarf
Many decades ago, a jealous man casted a curse on a beautiful scarf. He gave it, as a goodbye gift, to the woman who left him for another man. Two days later, the woman was found at her home, strangled to death by her very own scarf!

Coming to today, a girl buys the same scarf from a vintage store. And the horrors unleash from here.

The Umbrella
Many decades ago, an umbrella maker so proud of his umbrella making skill decided to put a curse of one of his prized creations, to curse the others who treat his art with contempt. Anyone who mistreated the umbrella would be found trapped and suffocated in it days later.

Coming to today, an unsuspecting granny buys the same umbrella from a flea market. And the horrors unleash from here.

The Computer
Many decades ago... (Oops, computers don't usually date so far back. Let's try again.)

A few months ago, a factory worker was murdered on a computer assemble line in his factory. (We don't need to explain why he was killed.) His incensed soul was embedded into one of the computer chips.

Coming to today, a family buys the cursed computer. And the horrors unleash from here.

The Chewing Gum
Angry with the world, a witch casts a spell on all the chewing gum in the universe. People start chewing the cursed gum and die one by one. By none of them can stop chewing. Chewing and dying, chewing and dying.

All except Singaporeans. LKY appears on TV, in tears, and says, "I told you so."

The Horror Flick
Easy. It bores you to death.

Felinophobia (Fear of cats)

I hate cats, both neighbourhood or domesticated ones. My hair will stand on end when I see one near me. I will imagine that it's preparing to run at me any moment. I cannot bear the feeling of one brushing against my leg. Brr...

Once, I was at 85 with my family when a cat appeared behind. I didn't even see it. I only saw my sister's eyes widening in warning that I raised my legs and screamed. 10 tables turned around to look at me. And my family disowned me. We haven't been to 85 since. Boo...

I used to be so infatuated with a cute Malay guy that I considered wooing him. Until I remembered that Malays are generally fond of cats, and there's a high probability that they rear cats at home. What a pity.

I wonder when I started to be afraid of cats. I remember I used to protect my mum from them. Yes, my mum is felinophobic too. Perhaps it's under the influence of my mother that I began to think that cats were scary. Then, my fear was exacerbated by the protection of my boyfriend. With a hero around, I didn't have to be brave anymore.

Haha, that's why I am felinophobic.

The Xiaodong Syndrome

The Xiaodong syndrome seems to be inherent in the sons of my mother's family. A boy with this syndrome are extremely shy, to the extent that it gets irritating. But when they are among themselves, they snigger at the stupidest things.

As you know, we are supposed to greet our elders when we meet them. A boy with the Xiaodong syndrome will whisper "__ Auntie" and scoots off. Hey, you are almost 20 years old. Can't you show more guts when talking to the elders?

I once met one of them on the street. I went up to greet him. He said hi and scooted off in the opposite direction. I was left there alone, bewildered. What's up, man? Why are you even afraid of a younger cousin? Anyway, Xiaodong is not his real name. It's a nickname from goodness knows when. I don't why too. His real name is nowhere similar to Xiaodong. I named the Xiaodong syndrome after him because he is the ultimate representation of it.

I spotted the same syndrome in a neighbour's kid. He is 8 years old. He seems to have a more serious case of the Xiaodong syndrome. He doesn't even greet my parents when he sees them, just like his older brothers (how rude). I happened to share the lift with him and another neighbour's kid once. I smiled at them.

The other kid (to me): Hello.

The other kid (to him): You know who she is? She stays next to me.

At this, he turned to face the wall (!?!): No, she stays opposite you, not next to you.

I was baffled. Why must you turn to the wall? What are you so ashamed about that you can't face me? Oh, maybe you are the one who stole my shoes.

Kids with the Xiaodong syndrome are so not lovable. My future son will never be like them. God bless. My son is going to be bubbly and a little cheeky and gets the adoration of all the elders.

The Solitaire Mystery

Do you believe in coincidences? Do things happen out of pure coincidence or they happen for a reason? Was it coincidental that I appeared, and became part of your life? Or was it intended?

I think about my course in NUS - the fact that I was interviewed by one faculty, but ended up in another, even though this was already my first choice. I wonder about my busy JC life, which took up 16 of my 24 hours of each day. I also think about the teacher who made me her pet in my early teens, causing me to fervently strive to meet her expectations, and became top in the level. I like to wonder about the many schools I attended when I was a child.

I don't think it is a coincidence that I was born. Nor is it by chance that my parents met at a football match. It is not a coincidence that my father came to Singapore to learn the art of the goldsmith when he was only 17. It is also not a coincidence that my grandparents came to Singapore and raised 12 children. The list goes all the way back. I came bawling into the world on 10 December, 1984, because of everything that happened before me.

It is not a incidental that I am in your life. I am here to love you, to hold your hand when you have no one else. I am here to hug you when your world turns grey, to hold you in my embrace when you need a little comfort. With me, your world becomes a lovelier place.

I am here to be loved. I turn to you when I am abandoned by everyone. I want to hug you when my world turns grey, to hide in your embrace when I need a little comfort. With you, my world becomes a lovelier place too.

Thank you, my friends.

This post is inspired by The Solitaire Mystery by Jostein Gaardner (and all my loves).
