In Bad Condition

I seem to be ailing badly.

Recent medical report said that I had a relapse. This time round, I don't feel upset already. Just sianz that I have to see the doctor regularly.

In fact, I was in a constant state of dizziness today that I sometimes had to sit down to regain my composure and get my breath back. My mum was rushing to the airport in the morning and commanded me to help her do this and that. I had to keep finding a corner at home out of her vision to catch my breath and stop seeing stars. Didn't want to let her know cos she'd say I'm weak and useless, or exaggerating. Later in the afternoon, I startled my friends when I had to rest by the roadside

On top of this, I woke up early this morning with a terribly twisted back. Every movement that stretches my back muscles makes me moan in agony. I tried massaging the area but I couldn't apply force. It's painful to the point that I have to bite my lips to prevent myself from crying. Weird. It hasn't happened before. I thought only men hurt their backs from doing too vigorous *ahem*.

Went to the temple to pray for better health. Will go see doctor regarding my relapse on Monday.

The Prettier Chow Sister

Dammit.

June's Wedding

Is just another chance for 32/01 to add to its collection of wacky group photos.

Not so...

Here we go...

We were trying to spoof Project SuperStar's promtion photo. But I guess we were too dressed up to be spontaneous :)

And finally, to wrap up the evening, a serious one.

Sicko Rich

Lonely Planet six degrees featured a bunch of guys who kidnap people for a living in NYC. But they don't do it with a vicious intent. They only ask for US$5,000 for each stint. And only if the victim is the one paying for it. The leader is kinda cute. And he showed how the team trains by using teddy bear victims.

In short, people actually pay them to experience the thrills of being kidnapped. It's weird enough to know that this group trains themselves to kidnap and perform psychological torture on a regular basis. It's also pretty disturbing to know that people actually pay to get tortured like this.

I can only say that rich people are not just self-centered (see below). They're sick in the head too.

Feeling Blue

I don't wish to be tied down by earthly matters like money.

Rich bosses don't know the misery of poor, little people like us, whose debts take up 50% of our meagre pay. So they happily issue our pay late. Thus, we can't pay our fees/dues/installments in time and we get fined. The poor get poorer. And the rich just laugh at our misery. Grrr...!

It just poured heavily in the bright sunshine. I could feel the heat of the sun yet couldn't see much through the heavy sheets of rain.

Strange. Heavy rain on a sunny day.

On Leave 27/9 - 2/10

What a glorious afternoon. I got the afternoon off and came home to rest. Was helping my boss on a mega pitch the whole of last weekend (By whole, I mean morning till 11pm on both days). Finally managed to replenish my lack of sleep. Plus it was raining heavily. Me likey :)

From tomorrow onwards, I'll be on official leave till next Tuesday. My boo (fave phrase of the moment) is having his birthday soon. So I thought I'll take the chance to clear leave. He's taking me on a beach getaway this weekend :) We got a fantastic deal at the Natas fair.

When I said I was going to the Natas fair, Baby thought I was going see some aerospace show. I think she meant NASA.

Jetstar is having a promotion for travel Jan-Mar. My Papa wants to go. Means I'm going to HK (again) next CNY. Yay!

Before I go away, I'll be catching up on some reading. Dylan has been lending some comics and the most interesting of all is this series called The Books of Magic, by Neil Gaiman, which Dylan claimed to be extremely similar to the Harry Potter saga. In other words, he's saying that the richest woman in England was just a lowly plagiariser. It does seem pretty suspicious. I'm going to check it out.

I love being on leave, being at home all by myself in the afternoons. I like to imagine myself as a poor poet in 17th century Paris, with the bustling marketplace on the cobblestone streets below. I like the feeling of a little person lost in the big world, yet enjoying the seclusion. I get weird feelings like this sometimes. Since I'm not in 17th century Paris, I go to watch movies by myself. My boo couldn't understand why I do that. *chuckles* I'm an enigma :)

Think I'll be blogging a bit as well.

Cruisin' To Work

Read about this mode of transport a few years ago - That there's this ang moh who commutes to work at Raffles Place by river taxi. It's a flat fee of $3, can take from the Esplanade all the way down to Robertson Quay or maybe further. Quite a good bargain I think, considering the peak period surcharge and the jam at the CBD in the mornings.

One afternoon, after lunch at The Central, my colleagues and I were trying hard to get a taxi back to office. But as always, no taxi would stop and if we walked to another part of the road, we might as well walk back to the office. The sun was scorching though, and all of us were quite reluctant to walk. Then I saw the river taxis chugging along the river and I thought we could go back by one of those, since our office is pretty near the Singapore River.

Seeing that it was a refreshing experience, my boss paid for us all and we flagged a taxi to take us. We were all giggly and took a few photos.

We alighted at Robertson Quay to the amazement of the waiters of the many restaurants there. (We were too dressed up in working clothes to pass off as tourists or idle locals.) *chuckles*

Ah-Long Alert

Some weeks ago, the following appeared at the stairwell at my level, as well as in the lift. It indicated a certain NRIC number, a name and the flat unit number.

To my astonishment, it looked like my unit number when I saw it in the lift. But there was no one by that name in my family! I thought wildly that my dad went to the loanshark under a false name. But then no one will be stupid enough to give a pseudo name but the correct unit number.

But upon closer inspection, I realised that the scrawl was referring to a neighbouring unit. Phew.

The scribbling has been erased by the accused, I presume, since then. (But seems like he doesn't know that the same thing was written one level down.)

Yesterday's Today Said

"Mr Liu said his boss, who was in his 50s, hanged himself on Saturday, according to the report. It is common for disgraced officials to commit suicide in China."
-Toys recall: Factory boss commits suicide

Just wondering why the reporter found it necessary to mention that "It is common for disgraced officials to commit suicide in China". Seems like a subtle attempt to inject some prejudice *shrugs*

Sad to see that you gave in to the evil force. Hope you will be happier in your new place. See you soon :)

Dancing With Boss

Update 14 Aug : Boss told me that his legs ached for two days after dancing. Haha.

Recently, our Creative Director got promoted to Managing Director. He was very excited about his new post and started giving motivational talks and organising bonding activities.

He organised Club Night on National Day eve. But response was lukewarm. Partly because he's not popular with his Creative team. And mainly because my Creative people are not the party type, contrary to what you may think. They're the staid movie-goers (my movie kakis!), bowlers, pool players. Once, a freelancer asked in disbelief, "Don't you guys party at all?" But we're a bunch of guai kias and don't do what other agencies do.

Since his team was not supporting him, the suits (including me) had to go la to humour him. I might sound reluctant but the Partygirl in me got pretty excited. I hadn't danced in a while!

Once we stepped into Butter Factory just across the road, my cells started dancing and I jiggled to the music. It was apparent that the dancing diva in me couldn't wait to jump out of my skin! But it was only ten pm and the dance floor was empty, although people were surrounding the floor with drinks in their hands.

After a few drinks, my MD sashayed towards me and said, "Mel! Let's go dancing!" He then grabbed my shoulders and pushed me to the empty dance floor! I couldn't be more mortified.

Dammit. I had to be gracious about it. Besides, he was already rocking to the music, lost in his own world. So I psyched myself to forget the eyes on me and forced out my dancing soul, praying that people would join us once they saw us on the dance floor.

Twenty minutes later, we were still the only ones dancing. The old man was sweating and panting already. Then my colleagues came to announce that they were leaving the club. I took that as a cue to exit the dance floor and leave the club immediately.

Dammit. The Creative will tease me no end for dancing with their boss on Monday.

The Proposal

Just about six weeks ago, the Sisterhood pulled off our best act yet to stage a surprise wedding proposal for Tay by her Boyfriend.

At first, the initial plan by him was to just have a couple of girlfriends to help him. But unfortunately, none of us wants to miss out on the action and the whole group turned up.

To meet his request of proposing at sunrise on a beach, the Sisterhood decided to book a room at the lovely Siloso Beach Resort at Sentosa, to "celebrate the birthday of the June babies". Then, it took us quite a while to work out how to get the sleepyhead Tay out of bed before sunrise to the beach.

The non-birthday girls got her to think that we were planning a surprise treasure hunt for the June babies at sunrise at the beach (cos any later, the beach would be occupied by people). It worked. She was very enthusiastic.

Her Boyfriend appeared in a suit at sunrise. The rest of us crept away. While we couldn't hear what they were saying, we were trying to peep at them. But they were blocked by a board and we could only see their feet. They talked for so long that we thought she has rejected him. In disappointment, we started to walk back to our room, until we saw she was lifted off the ground.

We cheered and lighted sparklers and blew soap bubbles in celebration as she walked back with the gleaming diamond ring on her finger. Feelings of elation were all around and we congratulated ourselves at pulling off the surprise.

He graciously paid for the room and bought us breakfast at the resort. I must say he has scored high in our books. Remember my Handbook for the Boyfriend? He passed and exceeded our expectations by trusting us with his proposal.

So, our friends are starting to get married. And having babies! The rest of us, please don't be pressured. Get hitched only when you feel that the time is right. I am an advocate of freedom of marriage. So stop asking me when I'm getting married simply because it's about time. I can get married at 50 if I want to! (Although two different fortune tellers told my mum that I'll be married in two years' time *shudders*)

Anyway, congratulations to the couple! We're looking forward to plan the wedding :D

P/s Girls, I need the photos to beautify this post!

I'm Seeing The Light Of Day!

I'm getting used to the routine of things, my days at work are getting shorter. It's not that my work is less. It's just that I can manage my time better, thus more efficient at work. At least, the days that I stay back are now less than the days I leave the office before ten. And no weekends for more than two months already :) As my team beefs up, my work doesn't get any less but I'm glad to know that there will be someone to follow up when I'm not around.

A past time that I've happily resumed is going to the movies. The shows I've watched in the past two months are more than what I've watched in the previous half a year. Go watch Black Sheep on a weekday. I swear I've never enjoyed myself so much at a show in a long time. The storyline is sooo ridiculous. In fact, the Kiwis in the cinema exclaimed, "This is ridiculous!" And the theatre roared with laughter. But beware, you may not look at a lamp chop the same way again. Lol.

With more time on my hands, I'm making plans to utilise it more. I think I will learn driving although Boyfriend thinks girl drivers should not join the roads to endanger the lives of others -_- (He insists that it's not a sexist remark.)

I should be exercising regularly too, to regain my hot body :)

I'm going to plan trips to unfamiliar places. My spiritual being is calling out to me - See the world. Feel the universe. Experience the cultures. I've started extensive research and detailed planning. First stop, Vietnam. I'm very excited!

So yeah, those are my plans. I just need to put them into action.

Sin City

One vice in the city is quite enough for me.

Overwhelmed by the wide selection of games that we couldn't afford to play (the fun games, e.g. Baccarat requires a minimum bet of S$60 per game), we only tried the simple sic bo (min. S$20).

Watching men focusing hard on their cards like their lives depended on the outcome (which was probably true) and men fishing out HK$5000 (S$1000) chips one after another from their purses, I could fully understand how gambling causes people to lose their lives, families to break apart and the other tragedies. I had to restrain myself, with great difficulty, not to exchange for more chips to continue betting.

That night, after several wins and losses, we lost $50.

By next morning, we abandoned all restraint and decided to take revenge! And we lost another $50. Shiok!

P/s: Jackpot is the dumbest game.

Feeling Moody

For the first time in my life, I dropped my phone. Coincidentally on the weekend when it is critical that I pick up every call. Because I need to attend to an ad that's going out very soon. Because I'm meeting some friends who have numbers which I can't remember by heart.

I've suspended my line. Please call me at my home if you have urgent matters. I'm sure you'll be able to find someone who has my home number.

After I get my replacement phone, please drop me an SMS so that I may store your numbers. But wait till I get it. I'll put up a notice when I do.

(Sigh. This is my worst two weeks in a very long time. I need to go pray or something already. To think that the astrologer said that this was the best year of my life.)
